Haji Shafie is the go-to guy for anyone who wants to know more about Johor’s culture or tradition. You name it, he knows it. His knowledge ranges from Busana Johor, Zapin to musical and theatre productions and beyond. Those who have had the privilege of working with him will realise how passionate he is about the arts, culture and heritage of Johor.
“With Warisan Johor moving to a more publicly accessible location, I wanted to bring people in. To do that, I had to set up the right attractions to get people through the door. Art and culture is for everybody to enjoy and people are always curious to know more about our (Johor’s) cultures and tradition,” said Haji Shafie.
Haji Shafie can give detailed explanations about collecting and preserving artefacts while using photographs to walk through any conversation that revolves around the history and culture of Johor.
“We intend to make Warisan Johor as a one-stop centre that encompasses all facets of Johor’s culture and tradition. This includes art, architecture, music, performances, history and of course, food. Like a living archive of sorts that is organic and always changing with new attractions but also holds some key permanent sights,” added Haji Shafie.
He strongly believes that Johoreans need a place where we can look into the past and learn more about what makes Johor culturally unique. Haji Shafie will continue with his mission to expose and elevate our cultures and traditions to the rest of Malaysia and beyond.
