N. Saraswati

A woman can accomplish leaps and bounds when she embraces her worth. Her awareness of her abilities gives her the confidence to carry out the work she wants to and drives her to achieve the goals she sets for herself in life.

Saraswati or Saras as she’s fondly known as, grew up witnessing the power of a woman who knows her worth. She watched her mother, a single woman with six daughters, fiercely define what being an independent woman means. Her mother sold murukku, babysat, and even accepted catering orders as means to earn money for the family. Once she became an adult, Saras set out with her mission to help other women become independent like her mother. Through Persatuan Suaranita Johor Bahru, she has trained more than 1000 women in various skills to help them stand on their own feet.

Having spent so much time helping women to upgrade their lives, Saras is a passionate teacher who feels accomplished when the women tell her: “Thanks for everything. I am a businesswoman now.”

Like any professional woman juggling work-life balance, Saras divides her time by giving priority to important tasks. She has a loyal following of people who support and have joined her in her mission. Saras’s dream is to equip at least 10,000 women with vital skills that will help them lead an independent and purposeful life.

Other than educating, Saras helps the community by paying for education fees of children from low-income families. She hopes to help more underprivileged children with their education, by building better homes for them, and by opening a well-equipped training center for single mothers. Saraswati also envisions buying a spacious vehicle for Persatuan Suaranita to transport more people around their work, home, school and training centers. Even if it’s a small task of just easing one’s traveling woes, Saras wants to be able to help.
