St. John Ambulance of Malaysia, Area of Johor Bahru

A name that needs no introduction, the St. John Ambulance of Malaysia, Area of Johor Bahru has a track record like no other. Their fleet of ambulances and trained volunteers are also a common sight at sporting events, festivals and parades, but more so at disaster sites including floods, fires, traffic accidents and even landslides.

More than just a disaster rescue service, St. John Ambulance takes pride in grooming the new generation of youths and students to be future medical volunteers by training them in home-nursing care, warfare emergency aid and of course, first aid. Through a system of annual regional competitions and intensive training courses, St. John Ambulance ensures that its members are ever ready to serve.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, they aided in transferring selected patients from Hospital Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom, Kluang to various other hospitals in Johor. Their hotspot emergency service also operates four days a week to support Hospital Sultanah Aminah’s emergency services.

In addition, they made and delivered 17,420 face shields to front-liners in Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Hospital Sultan Ismail, Tebrau Military Camp, Johor Specialist Hospital, the traffic police as well as to the state’s health department.

They also delivered 600 face masks, 3000 headcovers, 450 coveralls, and 150 Tyvek suits to those who needed them. On 2nd May 2020, they organized a blood donation drive and collected 92 bags of blood. St. John Ambulance will continue to have more blood donation drives in the near future.
