A lot of people complain about potholes, but rarely take matters into their own hands. Known to many in Johor Bahru as the Pot Hole Patcher, Uncle Panjang is our folk hero of sorts; someone who is determined to cover every pothole he sets his eyes on.
Uncle Panjang’s past is quite a mystery. Many stories surround his life: some say he came from a wealthy family in Penang, and some say he had a business in Singapore for more than 25 years. But one story remains true, that his late uncle was the person who inspired him to do good.
Since 2006, Uncle Panjang can often be seen patching up potholes along Jalan Maju, Jalan Serampang and Jalan Perang located in Taman Pelangi, working tirelessly with his bare hands while ignoring his surroundings.
For the good he’s done, many have warmed up to him often providing him help and support. However, there are some who continue to ridicule and throw insults, questioning why he does what he does. We at IMSHA strongly feel that he is a prime example of a selfless person and wish him the best.
